7 Day Magnetogram Map of AR2674 and AR2673

The way to decode the magnetic map is to know that regions coloured black represent areas where the magnetic field has a south polarity and regions coloured white are regions where the magnetic field has a north polarity. Like a bar magnet, both polarities are present and magnetic field lines connect between them. These field lines arch up into the atmosphere above the spots and are not visible when looking at the photosphere. You can see that in the centre of the spot group there are elongated structures. Using the magnetic map you can see that the elongated structures correspond to regions where the north and south magnetic polarities have butted up against each other. These polarities cannot merge, so instead have collided and become stretched out.

A BIG thank you to singer Miriam Stockley & Ian Lynn and Italian lyricist Alexander Macinante for allowing me to use their music to this video. My first on YouTube video. Miriam says "I was so touched by this video animation done to one of the recordings off my 'Eternal' CD entitled Se La Luna (Moonlight Sonata): , created by Steve Knight Really beautiful, thank you Steve! Thank you also to ESA & The Hubble Telescope for allowing me to use their awsome videos.
